Dec 07, 2021 -- Toronto -- Ecopia AI is pleased to announce the delivery of high-precision vector data to the government of King County, Washington. Leveraging 6” aerial images, Ecopia delivered a HD vector map of 16 land cover classes with planimetric-level detail (Ecopia Land Cover) including all natural and impervious features across the 2,300 square miles of the county. This initiative was completed in under 8 weeks.

King County has continuously been recognized as a leader in integrating geospatial data to support critical decision making. By harnessing the power of Ecopia’s artificial intelligence capabilities, the county was able to receive highly accurate, complete, and up-to-date foundational vector maps. This represents a significant improvement over the piecemeal data (assembled with varying levels of accuracy from different vintages of aerial imagery) that the county had to rely on before this partnership with Ecopia. Ecopia’s data that will support a diverse range of initiatives such as:

  • Supporting enhanced flood modelling and risk assessments
  • Enabling more accurate transportation analysis including setback assessment
  • Driving more accurate and timely stormwater assessments
  • Supporting important local initiatives such as: strategic climate action plans, social justice efforts, and wildlife restoration programs

The implementation of Ecopia’s data is being managed by the King County GIS Center, and will support multiple departments.

‍“We are thrilled to support King County as they leverage Ecopia’s Land Cover data to support such important decision-making applications. Our ability to work closely with the county; tailoring the outputs to ensure that the Land Cover data could be used to support all of their stakeholders, was critical to the success of this project and demonstrates the value of Ecopia’s proprietary AI-based systems” said Brandon Palin, Director Public Sector & International Development, Ecopia AI.‍
