Ecopia AI Selects Sanborn to Provide High-Resolution Aerial Imagery for the 3D Mapping of Canada’s Top 100 Cities

July 29, 2024 -- Toronto -- Today, Ecopia AI (Ecopia) announces that The Sanborn Map Company Inc. (Sanborn) will provide foundational high-resolution aerial imagery in support of the production of 3D maps across Canada’s top 100 cities. Funded by Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), this initiative aims to provide municipal stakeholders with a digital twin of the cities they manage, ultimately helping to progress Net-Zero goals across Canada. 

To create these next-generation 3D maps, Ecopia’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based mapping systems will ingest Sanborn’s high-resolution aerial imagery and extract features with the level of detail needed to develop a digital source of truth for the physical world.  By digitizing these physical features into interactive mapping data layers, Ecopia will enable Canada’s top 100 municipalities to analyze authoritative infrastructure, land cover, and land use information for policy and funding program decision-making. Additionally, this data will support the development of sophisticated data models to support critical applications related to stormwater management, flood mitigation, transportation planning, green infrastructure development, and more. 

Ecopia’s AI-powered systems efficiently extract mapping data from geospatial imagery with the level of precision expected of a trained geospatial professional, but at the scale required to produce a digital twin of our dynamically changing world. This process ultimately results in data that is comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date for critical decision-making.
