June 2, 2025 - Toronto - Ecopia AI (Ecopia) announces the creation of off-the-shelf 3D land cover mapping data for Canada’s largest cities, supporting geospatial analytics in the public and private sectors. The high-precision map data is now available for instant access across 40 of the nation’s most populous cities.
Part of a contract with the Government of Canada to produce uniform 3D mapping data for Canada’s top cities, the off-the-shelf availability of this data delivers unprecedented access to critical geospatial information for land use planning, civil engineering, climate resilience, public safety, risk assessment, and more. Access to additional cities is soon to follow, providing a first-of-its-kind digital representation of Canadian population centers.
This announcement comes just weeks after Ecopia’s release of high-precision 3D land cover data across the 400 most populous cities in the United States. Users can request access to Ecopia’s data portal to browse the newly available US and Canadian datasets.
As the global leader in AI-based mapping, Ecopia leverages its AI systems to extract high-precision vector data from geospatial imagery. This capability not only eliminates the resource-intensive and time-consuming process of manual map digitization but also powers the rapid updating of geospatial databases to stay current with real-world conditions. Ecopia’s recent technological breakthroughs have increased the efficiency and scale of the company’s AI-based mapping systems, enabling the creation of off-the-shelf data while maintaining Ecopia’s >95% geometric accuracy guarantee.
The data comprising Canada’s top cities includes buildings, tree canopy, bridges, sidewalks, intersections, shrubs, grass, bareland, water bodies, railways, swimming pools, forests, driveways, pavement, sports grounds, parking lots, and roads.
“As a proud Canadian company, we are thrilled to produce this unprecedented dataset,” said Jon Lipinski, Co-Founder and President of Ecopia AI. “Our project-based data has been supporting Canadian communities and organizations for the past decade, and we are excited to enable more users across the country with instant access to high-precision land cover data.”
