Product 3D Nationwide Land Cover
Ecopia AI is proud to have Hexagon in our global partner network. Hexagon’s industry-leading aerial imagery is an important input to many of the datasets Ecopia provides to clients around the world and across industries.
Hexagon’s high-resolution aerial imagery is a critical component of Ecopia’s mapping process. Thanks to the high quality of Hexagon’s imagery, Ecopia’s AI-based feature extraction is able to rapidly generate comprehensive vector maps at scale, all with the accuracy of a trained GIS professional. Hexagon’s frequent imagery updates enable Ecopia to keep data fresh and a true representation of the constantly changing real world.
Partnering to Map the World in 3D
Ecopia’s 3D Nationwide Land Cover dataset is created using Hexagon’s 6” and 12” resolution stereo aerial imagery. This innovative dataset provides an unprecedented level of geospatial insight for a myriad of use cases ranging from stormwater management, green infrastructure planning, public safety, and more.
Truly a comprehensive dataset, 3D Nationwide Land Cover includes every building, road, bridge, railway, driveway, sidewalk, parking lot, swimming pool, sports field, water body, forest, grassland, bareland, and paved area in the contiguous US, Hawaii, and major Alaskan metro areas, plus height attribution for all buildings, trees, and bridges. These features are refreshed annually using updated Hexagon imagery and Ecopia’s change detection to ensure end users always have the most up-to-date information without having to go through the resource-intensive process of manual digitization.

Shaping a Climate Resilient Future with 3D Land Cover Data
Thanks to Ecopia and Hexagon’s partnership, organizations around the world are now leveraging comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date land cover data for a variety of use cases, including many related to enhancing global climate resilience. The level of detail provided by the 3D Nationwide Land Cover data is currently informing flood models, stormwater utility planning, and other key geospatial workflows throughout the US.
Among the many organizations utilizing 3D Nationwide Land Cover for climate analysis is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). With the high-precision land cover data extracted from Hexagon imagery by Ecopia, NOAA is able to provide coastal areas of the contiguous US and the entire State of Alaska with impervious surface, low and high vegetation canopy, and water classification data at a resolution 30x higher than its previous offering. With this new source of truth for coastal land cover, made publicly available by NOAA, communities across the US can better adapt to a rapidly changing climate and develop mitigation strategies to become more resilient.
Other organizations leveraging data generated from the Hexagon and Ecopia partnership for climate resilience initiatives include the State of Washington, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, and the Texas Water Development Board. The list continues to grow as more organizations across both the public and private sectors seek innovative geospatial solutions to the challenges brought about by climate change. Ecopia is excited to continue its close collaboration with Hexagon and expand its offering of high-precision geospatial information for clients around the world.
