January 30, 2023 – Today, Ecopia AI (Ecopia) is pleased to announce their recognition as a top 100 geospatial company for the second year in a row by the Geoawesomeness community. Ecopia was selected for their groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence (AI)-based mapping systems and ongoing development of a 3D digital twin. See the full list here.
Since 2016, Geoawesomeness has assembled a team of geospatial experts to assess the industry landscape and select 100 companies to recognize as leaders. This year, the selection committee reviewed over 800 geospatial companies before choosing the top 100. The committee consisted of sixteen experts in the geospatial field: Dr. Nadine Alameh, Justyna Redelkiewicz, Chiara Solimini, Carly Morris, Wilfred Waters, Olivia Powell, Sives Govender, Jonathan Neufeld, Osamu Ochiai, Ng Siau Yong, Denise McKenzie, Maggie Cawley, Holli Howard, Esther Ogbu, Aleksander Buczkowski and Muthukumar Kumar.
“The annual list is an essential source of information about companies that are utilizing geospatial data and tools to solve problems,” said Muthukumar Kumar, Managing Partner at Geoawesomeness, “and is aimed to help our community make sense of the ever-changing geospatial industry ecosystem.”
Among the complex problems Ecopia is solving with AI-powered mapping technology are climate change, transportation safety, and equitable broadband access. One initiative that particularly appealed to the Geoawesomeness committee was Ecopia’s partnership with Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to create a 3D digital twin of Canada’s top 100 cities. As part of the project, each city will receive complimentary 3D data from Ecopia to aid in climate resilience planning.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized again as one of the top 100 geospatial companies in the world,” said Ecopia President and Co-Founder, Jon Lipinski. “Ecopia is on a mission to create a digital twin to solve some of the world’s most complex challenges. This recognition by a committee of our peers is humbling and further inspires us to develop innovative geospatial solutions.”
Ecopia was included in Geoawesomeness’ Top 100 list in 2022 for its work developing the first comprehensive map of Sub-Saharan Africa for humanitarian operations, as well as the creation of high-precision maps to accelerate the deployment of autonomous vehicles.
